Three Arches, Starboard Bow – Sea Serpent T-Shirt
£25.00
A sea serpent tee in the old natural history manner, recorded off the bow at dawn and measured by nobody.
Recorded off the Constance's starboard bow at 6.05 a.m., on a low spring sea in 1888: three arches, evenly spaced, and one eye that stayed above the water the whole time. Captain Dunnock was asked for an estimate of the length and declined to give one. The entry in the deck log runs to a single line. Plate III, North Sea serpent, Arcuserpens borealis: a long scaled serpent beside a small two-masted drifter under a low half sun, with one moon-gold eye.
