At ten past one on Midsummer night, 1888, every plant in the garden beneath the dome turned the same way at once: foxgloves, roses, the bean rows, all of it. The groundskeeper noted the time, shut the gate and did not look up. The Lunaria in the corner bed faced the wall. An engraved view from inside the gate, the Observatory dome behind the brick wall, every stem leaning towards one short moon-gold ray at the top edge, where nothing is drawn.
